The scary skyline appeared in the city of Mogilev in eastern Belarus.
Photos were shared online, with one chilling image showing a huge tornado-shaped black cloud suspended over the city.
According to one unnamed bystander, the scene turned apocalyptic around 9.30pm.
The eyewitness said: “It was getting dark at this time and I noticed something unusual when I was walking through a supermarket car park to do my shopping.
“I felt a profound gloom, like I was witnessing the end of the world, and right in front of me was a giant tornado about to sweep me away. I then realised that it was an enormous black cloud. I was so relieved!”
“I have never seen anything like that before”
Photos, taken by local residents and shared on social media, show the ominous skyline from different parts of the city.
Shocked Maria Kurtikova said: “I have never seen anything like that before.”
Olesya Frolova wrote: “Thank God my granny did not see it. She is very religious and believes that the apocalypse is coming soon. That cloud would have scared her to death I think.”

Mogilev is the third largest city in Belarus with a population of around 381,000. The city is considered one of the most important economic and industrial centres within the East European country.
