The 48-year-old has admitted his regrets for slamming Star Wars character Jar Jar Binks over the years.
Pegg’s comments come after Ahmed Best, who played the alien in the prequel trilogy, recently revealed he contemplated suicide after the fan backlash to his character in the early noughties.
The Mission Impossible star said: “I feel so ashamed of the fact that there was actually a victim, a human victim in that.
“I think most people were regarding Jar Jar Binks like he was a real creature and wailing on him for being annoying, or whatever, or not liking him.”
Pegg added: “But there was a person behind that. And I read that and just thought, ‘Christ, I’m one of those people.’ It makes me feel awful.”
The most prominent slam from Pegg in the past is probably when his character Tim, in TV sitcom Spaced, said: “Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like f***in’ Shaft!”
Interestingly Pegg is also a Star Wars actor, having played Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens.
Earlier this month, he tweeted: “Thank you all for your love and kindness. It’s been overwhelming.”
He then referenced plans to work on his new solo show, which might include the story of his struggles.
He continued: “I’m gonna start writing this show.
“Gonna need help cause I’ve never done this before. I will be trying stuff out and posting it here.”
Best added: “Let folks know. Thanks for all your support. It means so very much to me.”
