Wilder’s ferocious fighting style has long been criticised by boxing purists, who believe the American doesn’t possess the technical skills needed to outbox his opponents.
And that list can now boast the name of Bellew, who slammed the Olympic bronze medallist in a blistering rant on talkSPORT earlier today.
“Technically he’s a windmill artist,” Bellew said of ‘The Bronze Bomber’ during an appearance on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
“But ultimately, he has the equaliser – he has the power. That is why people tune-in to watch him.”
A fired-up Bellew then went on to seemingly question the notion of Wilder being a global star, claiming he himself has a better resume than the American.
“He’s the most unknown heavyweight champion of all time,” the Liverpudlian continued.
“It’s unbelievable considering the run that he’s had – I think he’s close to nearly 40 or 50 fights. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
“I mean, I have a better CV than him and I’m not even a heavyweight.
“You know, I’ve got two wins over a former unified cruiserweight champion of the world and a former heavyweight champion of the world, in David Haye.
“My victories over Haye are better than anyone he’s beaten. That’s a fact, that’s not even up for debate. David Haye’s CV is better than anyone.”
Bellew’s comments came a few hours before former WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring magazine heavyweight king Tyson Fury claimed a fight between himself and Wilder is in the works.
“I can reveal that negotiations have been very strong for December. We are almost done with this deal,” Fury said in a video on his Twitter and Instagram pages.
“But I won’t be looking over Francesco Pianeta.
“He is going to give me the right fight and the right work to prepare me for Wilder.”
